Axe Throwing - Let it Fly!

So I'm always looking for different things to do on date nights or with friends, and decided to give Axe Throwing a go at the Axe Factor in the Grandstand. I've now been 3 times. First as a date night with the hubby, then 2 other times we did double dates with friends.

It's actually easier then you'd expect to nail that axe in the wood - and I'm someone with zero hand-eye coordination! And the "cages" surrounding each throwing area give some form of comfort, as your partner lobs it at the target.

Funny enough, Axe Factor even sells alcoholic drinks. They have ready mixes of cocktails in a bottle, beer, etc. I don't think it improved my aim - but I definitely had a good time.

When you arrive, you'll need to sign a waiver (can also be done beforehand online). They will then give you a rundown of the safety guidelines (e.g. don't stand behind a person whilst throwing, don't throw when someone is picking up their axe, etc.). Don't forget to wear covered shoes! So no sandals or flip flops. And it goes without saying, but please don't wear heels, unless you've always wandered what an axe in the leg feels like.

The staff gives you a quick demonstration and short 5 min lesson on how to throw the 2 different types of axes - the big one, and the tiny one. I found the tiny one difficult. Apparently you're supposed to throw the small one like you would a dart - but I suck at darts.

Overall, we had an awesome time, just doing something fun and different. And you feel pretty awesome about yourself when you hit the target. My husband once managed to get his axe lodged into the handle of his other axe. He was definitely walking around with a spring in his step, and puffed out chest for the rest of the night.

First time I went to Axe Factor, I got completely lost. My advice is don't go into the Grandstand shopping mall. The entrance is on the outside of the Grandstand (not inside). If you're facing the staircase into the main entrance of the Grandstand on Turf City Road, turn left - and it's just past the pet cafe.

We found that 1 hour of Axe Throwing is enough for 2 to 4 people. You can book online via their website (check out the link below). The price varies, depending on the number of people in your group, and whether you're doing 1 or 2 hours. But it's SG$ 60 for 2 people for 1 hour, and SG$ 108 for 4 people for 1 hour (as at February 2023).

Probably my hubby's proudest moment in life...

What else to do before or after?

After the Axe Factor you can also head for dinner. We went to a little Italian place called Caruso on Bukit Timah Road, which we enjoyed. It was just over a 10 minute walk.

If you're also feeling like a particular adrenaline junky that day - there's a Go Karting place called the Karting Arena around the back of the Grandstand. I took my hubby hear for his birthday, and we had a great time.
